Lonely C & Tom Trago - The Compass Joint
The Compass Joint
12" EP *REPRESS*
This cool 12" back in stock - LTD copies - 1 per customer! "Five years ago, Tom Trago joined forces with Soul Clap’s Lonely C to deliver a collaborative 12” as Compass Joint. A project born of the boys common love and desire to pay homage to the sounds of the legendary Compass Point studios in Nassau, Bahamas where musicians like Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare and Wally Badarou reign supreme.Released with no announcement and only available in a handful of stores during ADE 2014, “The Compass Joint” quickly sold out of its limited run of 200 copies. Since then, the two-tracker has become a sought-after item, thanks in no small part to regular appearances in the sets of top-tier DJs including the likes of Harvey.
Now “The Compass Joint” is finally getting a re-release. Trago and Lonely C’s original version is an extended workout, with the pair peppering an undulating groove – all oven-hot bass guitar and layered lo-fi drum machine percussion – with colourful synthesizer motifs, punchy vocal samples, sustained organ riffs, rising synth-strings and restless cowbells. In fact much of the Compass Joint sound comes from an old “one-man band” style electric organ that Tom found on the streets of Amsterdam and rescued. The record ebbs and flows evocatively, subtly shifting focus throughout." Over on the flip, Marco Antonio Spaventi takes over, donning his Spaventi D’Azzurro alias to deliver a low-slung dub that re-imagines Trago and Lonely C’s colourful cut as a driving dub disco workout. Focusing on the weighty bassline and tooled-up percussion, Spaventi’s version bristles with ghostly chords, dub effects and starry electronics. It’s stripped-back, sweaty and heavy; a proper dub for dancefloors that like it raw and energetic."
