Dance System & Mark Broom - Back To Business
Back To Business is the first vinyl 12” from Dance System’s label, System Records. Launched in October last year, System has released new music from Hudson Mohawke, India Jordan, A-Trak, DJ Deeon, Sally C, Herbert, UNIIQU3, Black Girl / White Girl, KG, Shadow Child, ABSOLUTE., Alex Virgo, Cromby and more.
Continuing the label’s ethos of fun always as precedent; where dance music isn’t constrained by genre definitions or a fear of cynicism, the Back To Business EP perfectly encapsulates this idea of joyful, artistic freedom; seeing UK techno legend Mark Broom and label-boss Dance System masterfully circle around both techno and disco on this four-track statement of intent, supported by Annie Mac and Danny Howard on BBC Radio 1, and Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6Music.
On how the collab came about, Dance System explains, “Mark is such a hero of mine! I’ve been playing his music for along as I can remember. I think we both share a love for mixing the dark and light side in our music, and I’m very excited to release this EP, because it explores different areas across that spectrum. Never Ever is a groovy slice of disco techno, where as Back to Business is slamming piece of hard and dark techno funk.”
Mark Broom adds, “I've been a long-time supporter of Dance System’s productions and it was a real honour to work with him on this collaboration. I think the two of us have combined well to deliver a couple of funky, hip shaking numbers.""
Never one to shy away to calling out the dance scene, the title track, Back to Business, is a rework of Dance System’s This Is Business from Where’s The Party At?. Featuring Mike James in the role of a Business Techno DJ playing a plague rave, the track features his hostile dialogue with the crowd.
Dance System explains, “This Is Business is a comment on the celebrity of techno, and the shocking scenes of wealthy, big-name DJs playing plague raves with a blatant disregard for human life; especially in poorer countries with underfunded health systems. But hey, it’s just business and we all gotta get paid, right?”
Over on the B-side, you’ll find two vinyl-only exclusives, where the duo flip two classics for 2021 dancefloors.
